Snowarama 2007 celebrates its 25th Anniversary by raising over $27,000, and still counting.
Fredericton, NB, January 31, 2007 – Although the Guinness World record of 820 snowmobiler’s traveling in a single line was not broken, Snowarama was a huge success. Perhaps a second attempt is needed next year? Snowmobile enthusiast rallied together and where big contributor to the figure of $27,000 that was raised, and we are still awaiting some remaining pledges that are left to come in. This amount surpasses last year’s figure, which was gathered by pledges, food sales, raffles, and donations collected at main gate of Mactaquac Park. A very special thank you to those who attend the event and who donated to a snowmobiler, your participation helped open a door for children with disabilities.
In all 364 snowmobiles where officially registered, making this first gathering of the New Brunswick Federation of Snowmobile Clubs in one location, a truly inspiring show of support that snowmobilers care about children with disabilities. Julia Latham, Executive Director of Easter Seals NB, says “it was quite a sight to see 364 snowmobile lined up on the driving range of Mactaquac Park.” To see them pass through the starting line, one by one, was confirmation that all hard work during the planning stages had finally made it to fruition and that the goal of raising as much money as possible for ESNB kids was achieved.
The 25th anniversary of Snowarama was also successful in other ways. ESNB was not only able to raise the awareness level of the type of work we do around New Brunswick, says Mark Barbour, Resource Development Officer, but we where able to form new partnerships with local business such as: Mactaquac Provincial Park, the Holiday Inn, and Covey Basic’s. The support from these community minded business could be seen in the time and donations they gave to make the event a success. They also provided us with dedicated staff to work during the day of the event. On behalf of ESNB board members, staff and the clients we serve around the Province of New Brunswick, a very special thank you to all of you!

Many took advantage of the beautiful day and were sliding, skating, skiing and filling up on hamburgers, hotdogs, chilly and soup, along with coffee and hot chocolate. Below are pictures of some of the highlights.
The snowmobiliers of NB raised $23,000.00 for Easter Seals NB and we are still counting pledges.
Ross Antworth CEO of the Snowmobile Federation, Leota Forbes Easter Seals NB biggest fundraiser, the Honorable Mike Allen the Honorable Greg Burns and Stuart Blair President of the Snowmobile Federation, assisted Brandon Liston, Easter Seals NB Ambassador and Mark Barbour, resource development officer for Easter Seals NB, in cutting the ribbon to start the run.
This is what the 364 snowmobiles look like, lined up for the event. Snowmobiliers registered and either gave pledges to Easter Seals NB or gave a donation
The last of the snowmobiliers in the line.
Brandon and Ross are getting ready to start the run. I hope Brandon doesn't start without him
A Story of Determination and Success
The very first Snowarama took place in Ontario, thanks to the efforts of wrestler, "Whipper" Billy Watson. He saw the opportunity to combine the pleasure of snowmobiling and that of helping children with disabilities. Snowarama was to be a winter sporting event that would take snowmobilers along an official one hundred kilometer course, while collecting funds from their sponsors on a per-kilometer pledge system.
But this was only the beginning for "Whipper" Watson. He then began to approach other provinces with this exciting event. Snowarama came to New Brunswick when the New Brunswick Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (NBFSC) and its member clubs, in conjunction with the Easter Seal Society New Brunswick accepted Watson's challenge. In its 24 years of this winter festival, Snowarama has raised $1,360,995.53. Please help make this number continue to grow by donating today. Easter Seals NB and its clients thank all past sponsors for their generosity, our donations have made a big difference in the lives of many children affected by disabilities
The initial success of this event prompted the NBFSC to make Snowarama an annual gathering of snowmobilers helping children with disabilities across New Brunswick. Every year organizers and riders have been determined to beat the previous year's achievements.
